In late March, during the height of the COVID pandemic, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai announced that the company would be giving over $800 million to businesses that were affected and to support ongoing crisis response.
Stated on their website, “we want to help small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) stay in touch with their customers during this challenging time. That’s why we’re giving our SMB customers worldwide $340 million in ad credits, which can be used towards future ad spend, until the end of 2020 across our Google Ads platforms.”
Google said this is part of a larger initiative aimed at helping businesses through this time continue to reach their customers with messaging to help their online presence.
How do you know if you will be receiving any of these funds?
Google stated that they will not be accepting any applications for receiving these funds. Instead, funds will be automatically applied to eligible accounts businesses that meet the following criteria: Must have spent with a Google Ads account in 10 out of 12 months of 2019, and in January and/or February of 2020.
When will eligible businesses receive the Google Ads credits?
Google will be rolling these funds out in phases and businesses should begin receiving funds towards the end of Q2 2020. They added, “launching in phases ensures the ad credits are applied seamlessly to accounts globally, across languages and currencies, and is intended to provide the best customer experience.”
How will I know when my account receives any credit?
Once the credits are applied to the account, the admin(s) on the account should receive a notification email with more in-depth instructions.
Will these credits have any restrictions?
Yes and no. These credits can be spent across the Google Ad platform that includes Search, Display, YouTube and other types of campaigns. They cannot be used for any outstanding billing and must be used in 2020.
