Massachusetts has started to become one of the hottest filming locations for feature films and television series.  In 2018 alone, there were over 30 productions created in the commonwealth, including an episode of House Hunters, Castle Rock’s first season, and an episode of Ray Donovan. This year is shaping up to push MA’s film industry profits even higher with more movies and TV series making their way over to the east coast.

Here are the feature films and television series lined up to shoot in or around Boston in 2019.

A Sweet Romance

Starring Ryan Cooper and Katie Leclerc, A Sweet Romance is a holiday rom-com using an ice cream flavor content to try and save a local farm.  The movie has since wrapped production. The release date has not yet been announced but since it’s a holiday film, it’s likely that it will release late in 2019.

I Care A Lot

An exciting thriller about a legal guardian who takes advantage of elderly clients and ends up making a potentially fatal mistake. Writing and direction contribution by Peter Dinklage of Game of Thrones, this film stars Rosamund Pike. Filming began in July 2019 and a release date has not yet been announced.

Free Guy

Starring Ryan Reynolds, this action-comedy follows a bank teller who has recently discovered he’s just a background character in a video game. This film is set to release July 3, 2020.

Cortex

An Apple TV+ crime series starring Chris Evans. A crime series based off the novel Defending Jacob. This show follows the struggles of a father who is struggling with the fact that his own son has been accused of murder. Chris Evans is a MA native who hails from Sudbury. The release date has not yet been announced.

Castle Rock Season 2

Season one was filmed in MA so it only makes sense that they would come back for season two. Castle Rock is based off Stephen King stories that will intertwine different characters. There’s no better location than MA for this New England native’s series. This psychological horror combines mythology, storytelling, and intimate character development, all the best elements of a Stephen King novel.

Film Industry

MA has started to really gain traction in the film industry. More movies and TV series are starting to move their productions east due to all the benefits of this region- the weather, the location scenery, and old-time feel. In addition to the amazing scenery, Boston offers producers various events and film festivals for new productions to be showcased.

TheRiot Agency and Greenlit Entertainment are excited to see such a shift in filming locations. Greenlit has tapped into the unique position of being a marketing and branding agency specifically for the entertainment industry.

Teaming up with TheRiot Agency offers them the exposure and technological backing to support the influx of feature films and movies being created, promoted, and showcased within the Boston and South Shore area.
